Mampu Cave Bone, Sulawesi

Mampu Cave is located in the village Cabbeng, District Two Boccoe, Bone regency, South Sulawesi Province. The cave is situated at an altitude of about 250 meters above sea level, precisely located on the slopes of Mount Mampu. When viewed from a distance the mountain resembles an inverted ship. Meanwhile, on one side there is the summit of Mount Capable holes penetrating between Mampu cave ceiling.

This cave has an interesting legend. Surrounding community knew him as the legend of the Curse Mampu. This legend tells of a king who was cursed oath people into stone. Illustration of the legend can be seen through some form of rocks that resemble living creatures found in the cave.

The cave is formed by natural processes over hundreds of years ago and to be able to enter the cave you have to bring lighting equipment because the conditions inside the cave is very dark. Inside you’ll be treated to views of stalagmites and stalactites are very charming and lined up neatly. You will also get a view of two ancient tombs will add mystique in this cave. The cemetery is located in the center of the cave and another one located at the top of the seventh floor.
In addition, you will also get various forms of rocks similar to living creatures such as horses are running, crocodiles, rats were hanging and many more as well as a large stone shaped like a boat. The existence of the cave area of ​​2000 square meters is also a place for local people to earn a living by collecting bat droppings to be used as fertilizer.

How to get there:
Mampu cave is about 140 km from Makassar. To go to this cave, you can travel overland from Makassar to the Bone County for about 4 hours. Arriving at the crossroads towards Wajo and Rural Cendrana , Bone County you will find an archway with the words Mampu Cave Nature. This gate is located in front of the road to the village Cabbeng, of Bone. You just follow the paved path from the gate to the location of the Cave Mampu.  Along the way to the Cave Mampu you’ll be treated to views of the rice fields .

The cost of the ticket admission fee
To enter this cave , you will be charged Rp. 2.000,- for adults and Rp. 1.000,- for children. If you do not bring their own lighting equipment, you can rent a torch at a price of Rp. 2.000,- per torch. To make it easier to explore the cave, you can hire a guide at a cost of Rp. 20.000,-.
